Agriculture Equipment Support from TİKA to Cuba

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) carried out a  Chickpea Seed Improvement project in Cuba. Cuban authorities were delivered tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, and sowing equipment within the scope of the project.

TİKA delivered tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, and sowing equipment to Cuban authorities in Sancti Spiritus, as part of the Equipment Support Program for Cuban National Agriculture. This program constitutes the second stage of the Chickpea Seed Improvement project started by TİKA in Cuba in 2019.  

In the meantime, TİKA’s Coordination Office in Mexico organized a visit to Cuba for the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Cuba and Türkiye. Türkiye’s Ambassador to Havana, Vehbi Esgel Etensel, TİKA’s Program Coordinator in Mexico, Fatih Abdi Çetin, Cuban Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Maury Hechavarría Bermúdez, Cuban Deputy Minister of Tourism, Adalberto Venero, Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Ana Teresita Gonzalez as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cuban Ministry of Public Health participated in the visit.    

The objective of the support projects is to help Cuba achieve its aims of converting uncultivated land to cultivated land, increasing women’s and young people’s participation in agricultural production and optimizing agricultural productivity.

TİKA has conducted 8 rural development projects in Cuba since 2016, the year when it started its activities in the region.
