Agricultural Development Project for Meskhetian Turks Returning to Georgia

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) launched the Agricultural Development Project for Meskhetian Turks Returning to Georgia.

TIKA continues to add new projects to the ones it carries out in various locations.  In this regard, TIKA, which has initiated significant projects in the field of agriculture in various locations, has launched the Agricultural Development Project for Meskhetian Turks Returning to Georgia.

The two main contributors to Georgia’s economy are agriculture and animal husbandry.  The climate and soil of the Meskhetia region in particular are suitable for agriculture.  Because the majority of the Meskhetian families made a living off of agriculture and animal husbandry in the countries they previously lived in, they are very experienced in this field.

TIKA initiated the Agricultural Development Project for Meskhetian Turks Returning to Georgia in order to provide economic support to the families living in and who own land in the region of Meskhetia and to facilitate the integration of such families with other ethnic identities in the region.   Within the scope of the project, 17 Mesketian and Georgian families were provided greenhouses with an area of 150 m² along with seeds and saplings that would be sufficient for their seasonal production. Moreover, experts from Turkey offered the families trainings on agricultural production and greenhouse cultivation.       

The families who were provided greenhouses expressed their gratitude, and thanked TIKA.
