A Protocol Was Signed In Polond For The Translation Of The Mesnevi Into Polish And It's Publication

Through cooperation between the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency Directorate and Turkey’s Warsaw Embassy, a protocol was signed for the translation of the Mesnevi into Polish and its publication.

Within the scope of the “600th Year Celebrations of the Facilitation of Diplomatic Relations between the Ottomans and Poland” preparations, signatures were attached to the protocol to translate the Mesnevi to Polish and publish it under the cooperation of TİKA and Turkey’s Warsaw Embassy. The project protocol was signed by TİKA Chairman Dr. Serdar Çam, the Turkish Poland Ambassador Yusuf Ziya Özcan and Poland Mevlana Foundation Chairman Dr. Andrzej Saramowicz, who will be doing the translation. The protocol signing ceremony was attended by the Prime Ministry Assistant Undersecretary İbrahim Kalın and Prime Ministry Foreign Affairs Consultant Necati Bigalı.

In the said project, the Mesnevi, one of Mevlana’s most important works, will be published based on the original Persian translation in 6 volumes. The first volume of the Mesnevi will be published in 2014 and the Polish translation will be done by the most important Persian and Eastern Languages expert academicians of Poland who had translated such famous poets as Ömer Hayyam, Baba Tahir, Ferîdüddîn-i Attâr and Sheyh Sa’di Shirirazi in the past.

The project partner, the Polish Mevlana Foundation, is Poland’s most prominent institute on the subject of Mevlana due to it being the 2007 UNESCO World Mevlana and Tolerance Year activities partner in Poland. The project will ensure that a permanent project is left behind within the scope of the “600th Year Celebrations of the Facilitation of Diplomatic Relations between the Ottomans and Poland”. Also the Mesnevi of Mevlana, who gives the peaceful and humanitarian message of Islam in the clearest form, will be gained in Polish. From this aspect the project will contribute greatly to the struggle against ‘Islamphobia’ that has been rising in Europe and Western societies in recent years and help to remove the prejudices against Islam.

A Meeting with the Polish Mufti
Within the scope of Polish contacts, TİKA Chairman Dr. Serdar Çam met with the Polish Mufti Tomasz Miskiewicz, who is the official representatives of Muslims in Poland. During the meeting ideas were exchanged on cultural cooperation and joint projects that could be carried out in Poland where there are about 40 thousand Muslims, 30 thousand of which have Tatar origins.
