‘‘Playground” from TİKA to Arakanese Children

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) opened a playground for the Arakanese children living in Refugee Camp No. 5 in Bangladesh.

A playground was opened by TİKA in the refugee camp in Bangladesh. The playground is aimed at children who had to leave home and take refuge in Bangladesh after the events that took place in the Arakan province of Myanmar in August 2017.

The park in Camp No. 5 was inaugurated by Mustafa Osman Turan, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Dhaka; Şevki Mert Barış, TİKA’s Coordinator in Dhaka, and the people in charge of the camp and the representatives of our country delivering humanitarian aid in the region.

The camp is established in a small area and densely populated. Thus, children have only a little space and live in difficult conditions. With the opening of the playground, they now have an area where there they can socialize and have fun.

The UN and international human rights organizations call the violence against Arakanese Muslims “ethnic cleansing” or “genocide”. By the end of 2022, there were 952,309 Arakanese refugees in Bangladesh, and 52% of them were children.
