Babies in Cuba to Come Into World in “Türkiye” Neonatal Unit

The neonatal unit was named “Türkiye” by the Cuban Ministry of Public Health on the 100th anniversary of our Republic as a permanent symbol of the two countries’ collaboration in the healthcare field.

After Hurricane Ian hit Cuba in August 2022, the devices at Eusebio Hernandez Children’s Hospital were severely damaged following power outages and fires in the country’s capital, Havana and many cities on the west coast. Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) renovated the neonatal unit named Türkiye at Eusebio Hernandez Children’s Hospital in Havana.

For the purpose of reducing the number of maternal and infant deaths during childbirth in Cuba, a number of high-tech medical devices such as intensive care incubators, ventilators and transfer incubators were presented with a ceremony to the neonatal unit of Eusebio Hernandez Children’s Hospital, the largest children’s hospital of the country.

Cuban Deputy Minister of Public Health, Reynol Garcia; Türkiye’s Ambassador to Havana, Vehbi Esgel Etensel; and TİKA representatives attended the ceremony held at the hospital. In his speech, Deputy Minister Garcia expressed his gratitude to Türkiye and TİKA as they stood by Cuba during tough times.
