TİKA keeps supporting Ukraine for development

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has carried out a number of projects in Ukraine as part of its support to the country’s development within the areas of education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

TİKA contributes to the development of Ukraine with projects in a variety of areas, namely education and healthcare. Helping Turkey’s vision of foreign policies in different areas, TİKA has carried out many projects in Ukraine within the fields of education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Technical equipment support was provided by TİKA to various institutions in order to increase the capacity of the public enterprises in Ukraine.

 “This will help the preservation and maintenance of the common cultural heritage”

As part of its educational projects in Ukraine, TİKA provided infrastructural support to the Faculty of Philology of one of the most deeply-rooted universities in Ukraine and the Eastern Europe, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, which is located in the cultural capital of the country. During his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the renovated building of the Faculty of Philology, TİKA Ukraine Program Coordinator Hacı Bayram Bolat pointed out the importance of cultural cooperation between the peoples of two countries, which is based on a friendship of 400 years. Bolat said, "Thanks to our effective collaboration with your university, I hope that we will both contribute to the education of specialists who will strengthen the bond between Ukraine and Turkey, and to preservation and maintenance of our common cultural legacy in western Ukraine."

Vladimir Melnik, the Rector of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, expressed his gratitude towards TİKA for their support to the Faculty of Philology. TİKA also renewed the heating system of the Odessa Number 93 General Education Boarding School. Having renovated the kitchen area of the school which provides education for the visually challenged children, TİKA provided kitchen equipment as well. In addition to these, infrastructural support was provided for the Pukiv School where Turkish soldiers were treated during World War I.

Renovation and modern medical equipment support to hospitals and healthcare centers

As part of the healthcare-related support projects in Ukraine, the Melitopol Hospital, which provides healthcare services to approximately 156,000 people per year, was also renovated and provided with medical equipment support. TİKA also supplied the surgery department with equipment and restored the infection department of the Yaremche City Hospital. The hospital provides healthcare services for the city of Yaremche as well as six neighboring villages.

TİKA supplied medical equipment for the Ukraine Ministry of the Interior Central Hospital, which provides outpatient and inpatient healthcare services to around 45,000 patients in more than 30 specialties. Also, the healthcare center of the Odessa National Medical University, which is located in the south of Ukraine, was modernized with new medical equipment. TİKA provided modern medical equipment for the Intensive Care and Anesthesiology units of the Odessa National Medical University Hospital, which is one of the deeply-rooted education and research institutions of the country. The Verkhnya Lypytsya Healthcare Center, where wounded Turkish soldiers were treated during World War I, was also renovated.

Infrastructural support to public institutions in Ukraine

In order to contribute to the economic growth of Ukraine, TİKA installed a modern conference hall in the Ukraine National Scientific Research Informatization and Economic Modelling Institute. In addition to that, infrastructural support was provided for the National Public Administration Academy which educates the future bureaucrats of Ukraine. This unit, which had been opened as an institute under the presidency in 1992, gained status as an academy in 1995 and a national academy in 2003. The duties of the academy include the occupational improvement of civil servants and local administrations as well as scientific support to the state and administrative reforms.

TİKA renovated the clubhouse building in the Lopushna village of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, which is home to the largest Turkish martyrs’ cemetery in western Ukraine. Six new computer rooms were installed with TİKA’s support at Odessa Institute of Finance, which trains qualified specialists for the financial system in Ukraine. Therefore, a suitable environment for education was established in the area of "Information Technologies", which was recently set up in the institute. TİKA also renovated the technical infrastructure of the Governorship of Ternopil Directorate of International Cooperation and Fundraising.

Having carried out a great number of projects in order to increase the institutional capacity of the official authorities in Ukraine, TİKA supplied technical equipment for the Governorship of Ternopil Directorate of International Cooperation and Fundraising in western Ukraine. As part of the projects to increase the capacity of public institutions in Ukraine, the Financial Auditing Service of Ukraine was provided with technical equipment. Continuing its support in the public sector in Ukraine, TİKA supplied equipment such as printers, scanners, and computers for the Financial Auditing Academy that operates under the Financial Auditing Service of Ukraine, which is responsible for fighting against laundering crime revenues and financing the terror.
