A training program was organized in Turkey for doctors coming from the Republic of Senegal and Guinea-Bissau in collaboration with Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Turkish Ministry of Health.
TİKA continues its efforts to improve cooperation in health between Turkey and the Republic of Senegal and Guinea-Bissau located in West Africa. Physiotherapy and prosthesis training programs were organized for nine doctors from Guinea-Bissau and Senegal.
TİKA had previously completed the renovation works and provided equipment for the Guinea Bissau Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center and Dakar National Orthopedics Equipment Center. Within the scope of the training program carried out as the continuation of the project, professionals working at the centers in Guinea Bissau and Senegal examined applications made in Turkey in the fields of prosthesis, orthosis, and neurology-based physical disabilities, especially cerebral palsy, as well as physical therapy and rehabilitation at Ankara Gülhane Training and Research Hospital.
The certificates were given to doctors who completed their training successfully. Ankara GATA Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Gülçelik, Ministry of Health Foreign Relations and European Union Department Head Azmi Ekmen, TİKA officials and doctors attended the ceremony held at Gülhane Training and Research Hospital (GATA).
“We will share our knowledge and experience we have gained in Turkey with our colleagues”
Speaking on behalf of Guinea Bissau delegation in the ceremony, João Kennedy de P. Araujo, and speaking on behalf of Senegal delegation, Alioune Diop, said the training they received helped them get information about new techniques in physiotherapy and prosthesis applications. Diop said, “We hope that cooperation between our countries in the field of health will continue in the coming period. We will share the knowledge and experience we have gained through trainings in Turkey with our colleagues in our country.”
Doctors who visited TİKA also received information about the countries where TİKA is active, its areas of activity, and health projects in the region. Pointing out that only a limited number of colleagues could attend the trainings provided by TİKA, experts thanked the Republic of Turkey, TİKA, and GATA for their support through trainings.
