Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided fully-equipped fishing boats to fishermen on the Amran coast in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, who suffer from the civil war and hurricanes in Yemen.
TİKA provided 17 fully-equipped 9-meter boats to 34 fishermen in cooperation with Yemen's Ministry of Fish Wealth, the Gulf Fishermen's Association, and the Governorships of Aden, Lahij, and Abyan. The motor boats are equipped with GPS, fish finder, bathometer, nets, and other small pieces of equipment. The fishing boats were delivered to fishermen at a ceremony attended by the Governors of Aden, Lahij, and Abyan, the Director General of Fisheries, the Head of Gulf Fishermen’s Association in Aden Region, and the General Coordinator of the Yemen Higher Relief Committee.
In his speech at the ceremony, Deputy Governor of Abyan Mahdi Al-Hamed said, “It is very meaningful for us that Turkey carried out such an activity in Yemen, which is surrounded by water on three sides. We are very pleased with this project. I would like to express my deepest respect to TİKA, the Turkish Government, and the Turkish people. I hope such projects will continue and increase.”
In his speech, Director General Nail Es-Serveri stated that TİKA’s contribution to the fishermen who suffer from the civil war and the hurricanes that hit the coastal areas was a symbol of the support and appreciation of the Turkish people. He thanked those who contributed to the project.
Sansa Program Coordinator Abdullah Sarı said that the boats provided by TİKA would meet all the needs of fishermen and that they would be able to sail these boats with peace of mind.
