Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) distributed food and cleaning supplies to 2,000 families with members over the age of 65, low-income families, and families in need who were adversely affected by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Azerbaijan.
As part of the project launched to support families whose economic situation further worsened due to the outbreak, aid packages including staples such as oil, sugar, salt, flour, pasta, tomato paste, lentil, and rice and cleaning supplies such as soap, detergent, bleach, and tissues were distributed on behalf of Turkey. As part of the project implemented in cooperation with the Red Crescent Society of Azerbaijan and the Fund of Aid for Youth, aid packages were delivered to 2,000 families, especially those with members who are over the age of 65, live alone, are retired, or are unskilled day laborers with low income.
Speaking to press members, TİKA’s Baku Program Coordinator Teoman Tiryaki underlined that TİKA has been active in Azerbaijan for 26 years and launched an assistance project to help families in need or the elderly who are unable to leave their homes during these difficult times. Tiryaki said, “We are carrying out a project to reach 2,000 families and make them feel that Turkey is there for them. We hope that we will overcome these difficult times and come together through new helpful activities on better days.”
