TİKA Supports Filipino Farmers

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided agricultural machinery and equipment to the “Quinapondan Eastern Samar San Pedro Farmers’ Association,” based on the island of Samar in the Philippines.

On the island of Samar, one of the most impoverished regions in the Philippines, the yield was far below average, and farmers continued their agricultural activities under difficult conditions due to problems such as lack of equipment.

Farmers had difficulty in growing crops since they could not access water resources and could only use rainwater for irrigation.

In addition to 2 walking tractors and 2 rice threshers, TİKA provided 8 water pumps to local farmers, who suffered from water shortage. Thus, it increased their yields and helped them harvest more products.

Local people and Filipino authorities appreciated TİKA’s support for the region, where no international aid organization has provided assistance so far.
