TİKA Supports Rural Development in Tunisia

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided material and equipment support for the families who do not have a regular income living in the rural areas of the city of El Kef in Tunisia, so that they can carry out beekeeping.

As part of the “Program to Support Agricultural Entrepreneurship in the Rural Areas of Tunisia”, TİKA provided support to the “Beekeeping Incentive Project to Make Use of Natural Resources” conceptualized by the Al-Hayat Agricultural Development Group, which was founded in 2015 by a group of women living in the Kalaat es Senam rural area of the city of El Kef in Tunisia.

As part of the project, technical training was provided for the group members who do not have a regular income and want to start beekeeping by the El Kef Husbandry and Pasturing Regional Office working under the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture; whereas the materials that are needed for beekeeping such as hives, honeycombs, bee food and electric honey extractors were provided by TİKA. The purpose of the project is 1.2 tons of honey production by the beneficiaries during the first season as well as gradually increasing the production over the years. Furthermore, as part of the project, Al-Hayat Development Group will carry out their plans in order to produce products with higher added value in the upcoming years such as royal jelly and propolis.

Since TİKA began their activities in Tunisia in 2012, they have carried out 176 development cooperation projects in various sectors such as education, health, agriculture and husbandry in order to strengthen the administrative, civil and social infrastructure.
