03 May 2021Erenler Sofrası Set in Mozambique
As part of the Erenler Sofrası Ramadan Program, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) distributed food and hygiene packages to 4 elderly care centers and orphanages in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, as well as the surrounding areas.
The elderly care centers and orphanages are among the places which have been most severely affected by the financial difficulties caused by the pandemic in Mozambique, just as the rest of the world.
The food and hygiene supplies distribution project, which has been initiated by TİKA for 4 elderly care centers and orphanages in Maputo and the surrounding areas, is now approaching its targets. The first destination of the Erenler Sofrası, which set off with the goal of helping the stranded, the orphans and the helpless, was the May 1 Orphanage.
Having attended the handover ceremony, Hüseyin Avni Asoy, Ambassador of Turkey in Maputo, said “This charity, which comes from the table of Yunus Emre and Haji Bektash Veli, is our obligation to you children” in his speech.
Jerome Mondlane, a representative from the General Directorate of National Social Affairs, expressed at the ceremony that these supports bring the two countries and two nations closer to each other. The Principal of the Orphanage, on the other hand, said: “This is your house; thank you for remembering us this year as well”.
The following destination of Erenler Sofrası was the Moangane Elderly Care Center. Andaluse Comishe, the wife of the Mayor of Maputo who took the floor during the ceremony at the care center, stated that this place was special to her and expressed her gratitude towards Turkey for their help, which was touching for her.
As part of the program, 4 elderly care centers and orphanages will be provided support and the food needs of more than 400 people will be met for a month.
