30 July 2021TİKA's Support to the Commemoration for the 26th Anniversary of Srebrenica Genocide
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provides support for the Marš Mira (the March of Peace), which has been organized in order to commemorate the 26th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide, which is considered as the greatest human tragedy of Europe after World War II with at least 8,372 Bosnian civilians massacred.
Marš Mira (the March of Peace), which has been taking place traditionally on the route where the people fled the Srebrenica Genocide through the forest in order to reach the city of Tuzla, "Safe Zone", was attended by 3,000 people.
As part of the commemoration for the anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide, the participants walk for a total of 85 kilometers for 3 days during the march which is organized each year between July 8-10. The march ends at the Srebrenica Memorial, where the commemoration takes place on July 11.
TİKA provided logistical support to the organization and distributed hats to the participants of the organization, which is also known as the "March of Death" as it was first walked in order to escape the genocide that took place in Srebrenica.
In his statement, Mirsad Bajroviç, the Logistics Supervisor of Marš Mira, expressed his gratitude towards the Republic of Turkey as well as the Turkish people for their continuous support to Marš Mira, which has been organized for 18 years, and he said that TİKA stood by them despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
