TİKA Supports Healthcare in Pakistan

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) installed a 60-kW solar system in the District Headquarter Hospital of Lakki Marwat, which is the largest hospital in the district of Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan, and serves nearly half a million people.

TİKA built a solar system to generate renewable energy and ensure the efficient operation of hospital, which faces serious problems, especially in summer, due to power outages, which is the most important problem in the region.

The 110-bed hospital has 9 departments, many of which, including surgery and gynecology, were not able to operate due to energy needs. As a result of the project implemented by TİKA, all departments became operational, and the average monthly surgical operation capacity of the hospital reached 100. The project reduced the energy costs of the hospital through renewable energy generation.

The project, which aims to meet more than 90 percent of the hospital’s energy needs, will directly contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 7 “Affordable and Clean Energy” and Sustainable Development Goal 13 “Climate Action”.
