01 December 2022TİKA Supports Farmers in Montenegro
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) built two greenhouses and delivered a baling machine and motocultivator needed for farmers who are engaged in agriculture and livestock in the Bukovica region of Pljevlja Municipality in northern Montenegro.
As a part of “The Balkans and Eastern European Countries Food and Life Security Support Program” which is carried out by TİKA and aims to increase agricultural production and ensure food security, a baling machine and motocultivator were provided for the common use of the families who are engaged in agriculture and livestock in the Bukovica region in northern Montenegro.
Located on the Bosnia and Herzegovina border of Montenegro, the Bukovica region which is populated mostly by the Bosnian and consists of 39 villages, was a region known for its agriculture, livestock, and wood industry but most of its population had to leave the villages due to the war in the 1990s. The Bukovica residents who returned to their homes are engaged in traditional agriculture and livestock farming.
TİKA provided a baling machine to quickly and efficiently obtain hay bales which is the most effective way for the animal breeders in the Bukovica region to prepare food stock for the animals during the long winter period. Additionally, in order to increase the efficiency in agricultural production which is of great importance for families in the region, a multicultivator to be used in the quick preparation of the land for planting was provided and two greenhouses of 100m2 were installed.
Within the scope of the project held in cooperation with the Islamic Union of Montenegro, the greenhouses and equipment provided by TİKA were delivered in a ceremony in which the representatives of the Islamic Union of Montenegro and the beneficiary families participated.
Working in Montenegro since 2007, TİKA provided support to more than 2250 producers through projects aimed at the encouragement of livestock and agricultural production in the country against the unemployment and migration problems in the northern region of the country.
