Mongolian Children Overcome Their Disabilities with TİKA

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) initiated an exemplary project in Mongolia to enable children with disabilities to benefit from public school education, and established special education classrooms in 2 schools in the capital Ulaanbaatar.

There are approximately 11 thousand disabled children between the ages of 2-17 in Mongolia. The Mongolian Ministry of Education and Science has a policy of educating children with disabilities together with other children in pre-school education. However, many families could not send their children to school due to the lack of a suitable educational environment for disabled children in public schools.

Special Education Classroom at State Nursery No. 51

TİKA launched an exemplary project in Mongolia to enable disabled children to participate in education. In this context, an education classroom equipped with special education materials and equipment was established in the state nursery No. 51 in the capital Ulaanbaatar. The classroom with a capacity of 20 students has many special educational materials such as walking stairs with ramps, physiotherapy bed, crawling support, walking training ramp, balance table.

"This project will set an example for other schools"

Purevsaihan Söörtöön, Chief Specialist for Preschool Education at the Ministry of Education and Science of Mongolia, said: "This project is very important for us. Because it will be an example for other schools and we plan to open these classrooms in more schools so that our disabled children can participate in pre-school education. I would like to thank the Turkish people and TİKA for providing us with this opportunity."

141. Special Education Classroom for the Visually Impaired in Public School

TİKA established a special education classroom at the 141st Public School, located in the region where visually impaired students mostly reside, so that students with disabilities can receive education on an equal basis with other children. There are 31 visually impaired students in the school where approximately 3,500 students from 1st to 12th grade receive education.

In the classroom established by TİKA for visually impaired children, there are many special equipment and educational materials such as Braille embossed writing learning board, audio book reading and recording device, Braille math learning set, hearing aid technology, screen magnifier and reader software.

With the projects carried out in schools in the capital Ulaanbaatar, it is aimed that these schools will set an example for other schools and children with disabilities will benefit from education equally with other children across the country.
